Meet Diane Schimelfenyg
My husband and I have been residents of Richfield for the past 27 years where we raised our two children. We have been members of St. Mary's/St. Hubert's parish and then St. Gabriel's after the merger of parishes.
I have been a catechist since 2014 teaching 5th-grade children and then teaching in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program since 2018. I am trained in L1 and L2 and working on my L3 training.
"Catechesis of the Good Shepherd or CGS was developed over
60 years ago by Sofia Cavalletti. Together with Dr. Gianna Giobbi, they developed a program for 3 - 12-year-olds based on Church doctrine, the Bible, and the Holy Mass with a hands-on approach using the Montessori method. Children are grouped based on age, with three different levels. Unlike other “programs”
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd focuses on helping children develop a relationship with Jesus--getting to know Him by spending time with Him! The trained catechist serves as a mentor to help direct the children by providing a positive environment in which the child can do this. Instead of a “book”, the child comes to know Jesus through interactive “works” within a special room called “The Atrium.”"
I am a graduate of Marquette University and have worked in the clinical laboratory and in the corporate setting. I'm excited to take this next step and continue to bring God to the young children of our parish.
