2nd Grade Sacramental Preparations

Welcome to 2nd-Grade Sacramental Preparations!

Sacramental preparation is an exciting time in the life of a Catholic for both children and parents.

**The Milwaukee Archdiocese recommends that all children attend at least one year of formation preparation prior to second grade. (That's a total of  at least two years of sacramental preparation/education - 1st & 2nd grade.)  Sacramental preparation is open to children who have reached the age of reason (typically second grade) and have undergone sacramental preparation for two years.

It is our hope that each child desires to receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Children of the age of reason are invited to come closer to Jesus through preparation to receive Him in the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. The first step of preparation is to understand how God freely gives us His love, mercy, and forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  To desire to receive Jesus in these two amazing sacraments is the second step!   The first half of the year is spent in preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

The 2nd half of the year is spent in preparation to receive Jesus, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Eucharist. We know that parents are the primary educators of their children. This is especially true for what is modeled at home with prayer and our Sacramental life. Therefore, parents take an active part in the readiness of their children to receive Jesus.

Parents and children preparing for the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion will meet in special sessions, in addition to regular class times, to provide the understanding and a deepening of faith utilizing special presentations from The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (C.G.S.).  These special meetings include the First Holy Communion Retreat and practice are held in the spring. See our class calendar for special parent/child meeting sessions.

PLEASE NOTE:  These special meetings are for the day school parents & children as well as our parish formation families.

Second-grade students will meet in a traditional classroom setting each week. It is through this program that children receive preparation to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion, which the Archdiocese of Milwaukee celebrates in 2nd Grade.

It is important to note that if you are interested in having your child receive these sacraments, they should attend formation the year prior to the sacramental prep. class, to receive proper formation for these special sacraments.

Blessed | A First Reconciliation and First Communion Preparation Program

We are working towards including 2nd grade in our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program for sacramental preparation.  At this time we use the Blessed program from Dynamic Catholic as our primary formation tool.
